It’s finally done, and we couldn’t be happier. On to the next room… but which one?!

We have started making the house our home, the living is the first place to get tackled. Aside from some trim paint and a cleaning it is ready to go!
A final camping trip to squeeze the most out of the summer, Lance and I headed to Kawartha to try out a canoe/portage trip. Turns out lighter everything is required, rashions are ok but fresh fish is better, and bears are a little unnerving at 3AM…. but we did pretty well and had a great time!
Wifey and I went to Watkins Glen for the long weekend. We decided to stay in the State Park camping and tour around the lake and check out the wineries and distillery. It was an excellent trip and a beautiful park!
This year we did a short trip and stayed at Fairbanks (not far from Sudbury). The park wasn’t bad, but definitely not a park for the active camper; we ended up hiking at Chutes which was a fantastic park. One of the great things about the north is the blueberries are everywhere!
Wifey and I used the long weekend to get some DIY completed. We have been planing new flooring and paint on the main floor of the homestead for a few months; we finally executed the first stage. The floor is engineered bamboo “click” over cork 4-in-1 underlay. The floor installation was a breeze, the sub-floor preparation (mostly linoleum removal) was a nightmare! The end result is awesome, can’t wait to complete the front hall tile and call this one done.
After much deliberation and about 4 seperate 3D renderings we decided on a very basic face lift for the deck. It will include a pergola as well, but rather than the typical wood we found a japanese inspired prefab from Lowes; pictures of that to come! The finish is Behr “natural” whcih is suppose to keep it looking like fresh cedar.
I picked up a piece of spalted maple, it was actually firewood so it could be considered a rescue. This one is coming a long, definately still rough but hopefully the style is a little more unique!
Overall this was a great project; I learned a lot and I proud of the results. On to the next project!
Oh, and Katsui Approves again.
The destruction is all done, time to start putting it back together.
Here is another teaser, Katsui no longer approves though.
